When I got home from school, I shouted, “He’s here! He’s finally here! Here’s Poopster, the best animal in the whole world!”

Waggles barked.

“Waggles thinks he’s the best animal in the whole world,” Mia said.

I set Poopster’s cage on the kitchen table. Then I patted my dog. “Sorry, Waggles. You’re just not as cute as Poopster. And you’re a lot harder to take care of. You drool and throw up and have big, stinky poops.”

My sister Alexa glanced up from the computer and said, “Keep it down. I’m trying to do my homework.”

“No she’s not. She’s looking at pictures of rock stars’ tattoos,” Mia said.

“Tattletale,” Alexa said.

“Does Poopster need anything from the pet store?” Mom asked.

I opened my backpack and took out Poopster’s food, food bowl, water bottle, treats, chew toys, exercise wheel, running tube, litter pan, nesting paper, jungle gym, and igloo hideout. “Well, I don’t know. Do you think he has enough stuff?” I asked.

“More than enough,” Mom said.

Then I realized I’d left the hamster book at school. Oh, well. I didn’t need any help.
